SEA TEACHER BATCH 11 IN PHILIPPINES
My Wonderful Experience During SEA Teacher Program in the Philippines
There are moments in life that do not simply pass by — they stay, settle quietly in our hearts, and shape who we become. Being part of the SEA Teacher Program is one of those moments for me. Having the opportunity to conduct my teaching internship in Batangas, Lipa City, Philippines, was not only an academic experience, but also a deeply emotional and meaningful journey that I will cherish forever.
The Beginning of a Dream
When I first received the news that I was selected to join the SEA Teacher Program, I felt a mixture of excitement, nervousness, and disbelief. Teaching abroad had always felt like a distant dream, something I admired from afar. However, stepping onto Philippine soil made that dream suddenly real. I realized that this was not just about traveling or fulfilling a requirement — it was about growth, courage, and stepping outside of my comfort zone.
A Welcome That Felt Like Home
From the very first day of our arrival, we were welcomed with extraordinary warmth. The dean, lecturers, and our wonderful buddies greeted us with sincere smiles and open hearts. Their hospitality made the unfamiliar environment instantly feel safe and welcoming. I truly felt that we were not treated as guests, but as part of a family.
A Life-Changing Teaching Internship
The core of my SEA Teacher journey was, of course, the teaching internship. Being able to teach in a foreign country for one full month was an invaluable experience. I was guided by my cooperating teacher, Ma’am Lea, who continuously supported and guided me throughout my teaching process. During my demo teaching and final demonstration, she patiently gave feedback, encouraged me to improve, and helped me build confidence in front of the classroom.
The school environment was incredibly supportive. Teachers were always willing to help, guide, and share their knowledge with me. I learned so much, not only about teaching methods, but also about classroom management, lesson planning, and how to build meaningful relationships with students. The guidance I received in preparing lesson plans and implementing them effectively became one of the most valuable lessons I gained from this internship.
One of the most touching moments occurred after my final demo teaching. The students surprised me with many heartfelt gifts that made me feel deeply appreciated. Their smiles, enthusiasm, and affection reminded me why I chose the path of education. On that same day, we were served delicious food as a celebration of the learning journey we had shared together. It was an emotional moment — a mix of happiness, gratitude, and pride.
Cultural Experiences and Unforgettable Joy
Beyond teaching, the SEA Teacher Program allowed me to immerse myself in Philippine culture. There were countless fun and memorable moments — riding tricycles and jeepneys, exploring the city, and visiting many beautiful places around Batangas and beyond. Every journey felt special, especially because it was shared with supportive and cheerful buddies who made each experience more meaningful.
I also had the chance to try local foods, including Jollibee, a famous fast-food chain that unfortunately does not exist in Indonesia. Visiting SM Mall, exploring various tourist spots, and experiencing daily life in the Philippines helped me understand the culture more deeply. These simple yet joyful moments created memories that I will treasure for a lifetime.
Lessons That Will Stay With Me Forever
The greatest lesson I bring home from this program is the experience of teaching in another country while building connections with genuinely kind people. Even though the program lasted only one month, the impact it had on my personal and professional growth is immeasurable.
I learned how to adapt to a new environment, communicate across cultures, and grow more confident as a future educator. Saying goodbye to the Philippines was one of the hardest parts of this journey. Leaving was painful, but I returned home with a heart full of gratitude, knowledge, and unforgettable memories.
A Chapter I Will Always Cherish
The SEA Teacher Program was more than just an internship — it was a transformative chapter in my life. I felt incredibly honored and grateful to be given the opportunity to teach, learn, and grow in the Philippines. This experience has strengthened my passion for education and broadened my perspective as a global citizen.
I am truly happy and proud to have been part of this program. Deep in my heart, I sincerely hope that one day I will be able to return to the Philippines — not only as a visitor, but as someone who once called it home. This journey will forever remain one of the most meaningful and unforgettable experiences of my life.
